With thanks to Hugh Armstrong, who gathered the information as to what questions were asked on every Canadian census. Hugh's website was an invaluable resource, but Hugh, and his site are long gone from the Internet. So that Hugh's hard work would not be lost, I saved the pages and placed them online on AllCensusRecords.com. Enjoy! And remember to silently thank Hugh for his hard work.

QUESTIONS ASKED ON THE 1842 CENSUS

(ONLY THE NAMES OF HEADS OF FAMILIES ARE LISTED)

In 1842 parts of Ontario had no European population or so few that it was not practical to take a census. Not all returns have survived. What is extant is usually readable. Be careful and keep track of the page numbers. The form is six pages long and it is easy to record the details on the last five pages from another first page.
